At the end of Harry Potter, there's about an hour of magic: Hogwarts Mysteries, when a Dumbledore owl arrives with a letter bearing your name and you're whisked off to Diagon Alley to train for your wizarding education. Hogwarts Mystery looks a bit simple like a lot of smartphone games, but it's not lazy; it's fun and humorous. Fan-pleasing touches come in the form of dialog delivered by actors from the Harry Potter movies, cameos by favorite characters and allusions to Potter trivia nuggets.When you reach the first story interlude, your character gets tangled up in Devil's Snare, the enchantment fades. After a few seconds of rapid clicking to get out of its clutches, the power runs out and the game asks you to pay a few quid to refill it–or wait an hour or to refresh it.
Unfortunately, this is by design.Hogwarts Mystery is doing everything it can from this point on to keep you from enjoying it. Without being disrupted, you can not even get through a single class. A typical lesson now involves 90 seconds of tapping, followed by an hour of waiting (or buying), followed by another 90 seconds of tapping. A £ 2 outlay every 90 seconds is not a reasonable request. The waiting times are even more extreme between story missions: three hours, even eight hours. Hogwarts Mystery pulls the old trick of hiding behind an in-game "gem" currency the true cost of its transactions, but I've found out you'd have to spend around £ 10 a day playing Hogwarts Mystery for 20 consecutive minutes.The game would have nothing to recommend without the trappings of Harry Potter. The lessons are quickly becoming dull and the writing is disappointingly bland, although with character dialogue, it does make an effort. It's fun to duel other students and cast spells, but most of the time you just press. You never have to engage your brain apart from answering the occasional Potter-themed question in class. Waits would be more bearable if, in the meantime, something had to be done, such as exploring the castle or speaking to other students. But at Hogwarts, there's nothing to search, and there's no event that doesn't need more fuel.

In a new addition, Hogwarts Mystery introduces first-time in-game players to the Patronus charm, taught by Tonks, a character in the Harry Potter series, to users. To save Hogwarts from a mysterious evil presence in the castle, each player will be able to summon a different Patronus, "designated by both choice and player attribute levels."
